GERD & Reflux in Teens

Pediatric Acid Reflux and GERD in Teens

If you’re a kid or teen who just found out that you have GERD, you might wondering about what changes you’ll need to make in your life. There are a lot of new rules about what you’re not supposed to eat, and maybe you need to take medication. Maybe you just feel different.

But here’s the good news: You’re not alone. In fact, nearly 10 percent of teens and pre-teens in the US are affected by gastroesophageal reflux or reflux disease (GERD). That’s a lot of kids!

And here’s the better news: Most kids with acid reflux are able to lead normal, active, healthy lives. With lifestyle adjustments and other treatments, you’ll probably find that you can do all of the things you want to do—whether it’s sports, music, summer camp, or just hanging out with your friends. There’s no reason that pediatric acid reflux disease should limit your life.

GIKids has information and resources for teenagers with GERD throughout this section of our site. Please feel free to view, download, or print any of these resources. But remember, to ensure that you get the best, most effective treatment for your condition; you should talk to your pediatrician or pediatric gastroenterologist.
